Our volunteers are trained under the direct guidance of a PATH-certified instructor. TRC has been blessed with many volunteers of all ages. They serve TRC in a variety of tasks. Some volunteers assist with grooming the horses, cleaning tack, stalls, and the arena, and others serve as side-walkers and horse leaders. No matter the task, our volunteers have consistently provided us with the love and support needed to serve our students and our horses.
“Volunteering at TRC is such a meaningful way to give back to the community and spend time around horses. I love seeing how much our students enjoy riding and seeing their bond with the horses. Watching their confidence grow and seeing progress each week is truly inspiring.”

The Therapeutic Riding Center volunteers work directly with the Instructor to provide assistance prior to and during the adaptive riding lessons. The main responsibilities include participating in the lesson by leading a horse or side-walking with a student.
We are in need of regularly scheduled volunteers year long, as we have a Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer sessions. We will be matching you with a horse or student to work with during that session so that you can help the student excel in our program.
Our volunteer work can be strenuous and typically requires the following: being able to stand on your feet for at least 1 hour at a time, walking on uneven ground, being able to handle a dusty environment, and being able to move quickly around large animals. Please note: No prior horse experience is necessary.
To ensure that our volunteers are properly trained, TRC holds a mandatory new volunteer training at least once a month. If you are passionate about serving the needs of those with disabilities and have a passion for horses, we encourage you to join us. TRC is always looking for dedicated and committed volunteers! We are happy for whatever time you can share with us. Thank you. Send us an email if you have any questions.
