I grew up on a small farm in Oregon. We built and managed a training and boarding stable of 25 horses. I spent all of my free time raising and training Tennessee Walking horses. It was a great way to grow up.
After graduating from college with a degree in education I moved to the southern Oregon coast to teach high school PE and coach numerous sports. After teaching and coaching for 15 years I decided to take a year off. I was talked into coming to Huntington Beach to help a colleague who was in charge of running International Volleyball Coaching Certification Courses at different locations in the US. It was supposed to be for 6 weeks or 2 months maximum. That was 1989 and I’m still here.
I purchased a small volleyball equipment business in 1990. I designed, manufactured, warehoused and distributed volleyball and water polo training aids. These training aids were designed to isolate a particular part of a sport skill to make it easier to learn. In 2023 I sold the business and retired.
I had heard about TRC and decided to check it out. It re-awakened my love of horses. Working around horses is incredibly therapeutic for me. I have witnessed the improvement of our students in core strength, balance, and confidence. It is thrilling to watch the special bond develop between our students and our horses. The leadership, professionalism, dedication of our volunteers and overall organization of TRCHB is exceptional. I am honored to be a part of TRCHB.
